Jumpking Trampolines have had a rocky ride when it comes to product safety
and its wise as a consumer to be aware of the facts and then decide for yourself
if it is a brand you can trust.
The Jumpking Trampoline was very popular when it first came on the market;
soon, however, manufacturing defects led to serious injuries which were followed
by complaints and investigations.
The Jumpking Trampoline Facts
The Jumpking trampoline was manufactured both in the United States and China
and was sold in the United States and Canada from July 1999 through December
2003. They were sold at discount department stores nationwide at prices ranging
from $350 to $450
On January 25, 2005, a voluntary recall was made by Jumpking Inc of about one
million trampolines and about 296,000 “FunRing” enclosures sold separately.
Welds on the Jumpking Trampoline could easily break during usage causing serious
injuries; also the mounting brackets of the FunRing enclosures were very sharp,
which could cause lacerations. The company’s recall included 14-foot and 15-foot
Jumpking trampoline sold separately and with FunRing enclosures. Some enclosures
were sold separately from the trampolines
Approximately 47 complaints were received of one or more welds breaking on
these trampolines causing various injuries to 21 people including a concussion;
among other injuries there were head, neck and back injuries; broken arms;
sprains; lacerations and bruises. The company also received an additional 12
complaints in which children came in contact with the sharp edges of the
enclosure brackets causing serious lacerations. Consumers were warned publicly
to stop using any Jumpking trampoline as soon as possible to avoid any serious
injuries.
Helpful Tip
When purchasing a trampoline you must check carefully the product and make
sure to research the manufacturer’s credentials. A small manufacturing defect
can cost one serious life threatening injuries.
Trampolines are especially dangerous due to their high bounce; should
anything fail to support you when you hit back the trampoline pad you are sure
to have a serious injury.
Safety first – check the warranty of the trampoline before purchase; they all
should be tested and approved for sale. A stamp or sticker addressing this issue
should be present on every trampoline.
Like Jumpking trampoline, there are many companies that don’t put safety
first and it is our job to make sure we protect ourselves and our family from
falling victim and later suffering from such accidents. If you have any such
suspicions or questions don’t hesitate to contact a consumer safety official to
shed some light on the matter. It is due to people who voiced their complaints
and injuries that such companies are stopped before their products can cause any
further injuries.
